Frequently Asked Questions

Will my insurance cover oral appliance therapy?

Since oral appliance therapy is considered medical treatment, it will only be covered by medical insurance. Most major insurers, including Medicare, cover oral device therapy. Our staff is exceptionally knowledgeable with medical insurance and will make sure to maximize your benefits.

How does an oral appliance work?

The Oral Appliance fits over the lower and upper teeth like orthodontic retainers. The device allows you to open and close your mouth like normal. However, it places your jaw in a position that maintains an open airway by preventing the lower jaw from falling back and collapsing the airway.

What are the advantages of using oral appliance therapy?

Oral appliances are comfortable, easy to wear, small and easy to carry when travelling. Oral appliance treatment is reversible and non-invasive. The best of it all is that your bed partner will find it more attractive than a noisy mask.

Why should I consider oral appliance therapy versus CPAP?

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine published practice parameter guidelines stating that Oral appliances are indicated for use in patients with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea who prefer them to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, or who do not respond to, are not appropriate candidates for, or who fail treatment attempts with CPAP.
